The Full Story
Eco Church at SJN
Eco Church is a national initiative from A Rocha UK that helps churches weave care for God’s creation into their worship, teaching, buildings, land, and community life. Through a practical survey and award scheme, churches assess how they currently steward the environment and identify meaningful steps toward more sustainable, justice‑focused discipleship. The programme encourages changes both simple and significant — from energy efficiency and biodiversity to lifestyle choices and global engagement.
We are currently working towards the Bronze award.
For St John’s Newland, pursuing Eco Church status is a natural extension of our commitment to living out the gospel in everyday life. It means looking thoughtfully at how we use our buildings, how we care for our grounds, how we teach and pray about creation, and how we encourage our congregation to act responsibly and compassionately in the world.
We will share ideas and suggestions through this page, our newsletters and in church, for how we can all contribute to this, both directly through our church activities, and also through our own lives.
If you have ideas already or want to get directly involved, contact Helen, Hannah T or Neil.
See Eco Church - An A Rocha UK Project for more details of the scheme.
