It is Monday evening, 8pm and a group of 40 or more men

eagerly gather together over drinks in the function room of the

Turnpike on the corner of Beverley Road/Cottingham Road. The

conversation is jovial, new introductions are made and old

friendships renewed. Then, as the men are seated, large

appetites are satisfied. With a menu ranging from steak and

kidney pie through lasagne to steak, everyone tucks in and the

conversation continues.

Around 8.45 there is a change in atmosphere as the main event

begins. What follows is a presentation of some aspect of the

Christian faith and the implications it has for ordinary men living

in the 21st century. `Why is there so much evil in the world?'

 What is the evidence for the resurrection?   Why do people

believe anything at all?  These are just some of the topics

covered by a speaker and then it is a free for all as the

questions fly thick and fast. Down to earth and no nonsense are

just some of the phrases which might describe the meeting.

Sometimes a special guest is introduced, like a singer, but

always the focus is on men being open enough and having

courage enough to face tough questions honestly.

That is  Men at the Top , which meets every second Monday at

the Turnpike. It is open to any man who has an open mind. Why
